[NEWS] Preparation for Election in Gilgit-Baltistan-Excluding Political Setup of NALA

Ali (Gilgit) Orders have been given to prepare voters list on an emergencies basis in Gilgit-Baltistan to ensure the upcoming elections of Northern Areas Legislative Assembly (NALA). On Wednesday in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary (who is a bureaucrat from Pakistan) Babar Yaqub Fatah Muhammad, participated by Chief Election Commissioner GB, Zafar Waqar Taj and several other bureaucrats  the administration has been  informed regaring the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. Chief Secretary passed orders to provide all necessary support to the administration in order to prepare the voters list timely.

Chief Secretary stated that the Pakistan’s minister for Kashmir and Northern Areas Affairs (KANA) has ordered to ensure to hold elections on schedule without delays. He further said after completion of voters list the schedule of elections would be announced immediately but he has not stipulated any date.

However, it is to be noted that there is no mention or participation of existing elected members of NALA or establishment of an interim governing body of politician of the Gilgit-Baltistan. Uniquely in democratic setups of the world the government of Pakistan has introduced a system of bureaucracy to govern elections disregarding elected representatives of Gilgit-Baltistan. Politicians and civil rights movements from across Gilgit-Baltistan are protesting the process and regarded it as preparation for fraud and corrupting the election process to bring people in power according the desires of Pakistani establishment.  It has also been requested to UNO), Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), International Crisis Group (ICG) and European Commission (EU) to monitor the said election and its process.

A few days back I created a group about Gilgit-Baltistan on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18203177994). For the following few days I was searching for something that could possibly represent the whole Gilgit-Baltistan in just a single image and I came up with a flag, same as you have embedded in the post, while surfing the internet. I am not sure weather if it’s an official flag of Gilgit-Baltistan and I keep getting comments about the topic at the group. Please tell us in detail, if possible; about the flag.
