[NEWS] Protest on behalf of 1100 teacher 40,000 students of SAP Schools in Gilgit-Baltistan

Teachers and students of Social Action Programme (SAP) Schools have protest and for two consecutive days in Gilgit, in the leadership of Raja Karamat-ullah Khuswaqt. Almost 1100 teacher, 40,000 students of 540 schools across Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the protest. SAP schools were established with the support of World Bank and British Council with the aim of promoting primary education in the Gilgit-Baltistan. However, for last 6 years the schools are operating under Regional Education Directorate of Gilgit-Baltistan, where teacher have not been paid their salaries for the same period of 6 years and there repeated protest were suppressed by the regional administration and regional directorate with threats. 

KANA division has issued orders to transfer these schools to National Education Foundation (NEF) and NEF has allocated reasonable sums of budget for these schools but Regional Education Directorate of Gilgit-Baltistan is creating hurdles and keeping on delaying the process of transfer due to which both poor students and teacher are suffering heavy losses. This time protest ended peacefully when the appellate court to action and ensured justice to the teacher and students at an earliest possible time.
