Karachi (Sabir): Mr. Kamil Jan, candidate for the upcoming elections of the Legislative Assembly of Gilgit-Baltistan (LAGB), announced to boycott the elections if Hunza will not be given an additional seat in LAGB. Kamil Jan, further stated that ‘to gain the rights of the people of Hunza I am ready to shed the lost drop of my blood as being a humble child of the soil of Hunza’ he stated this in a meeting of political leaders/workers, social activists, intellectuals, and students belonging to Hunza, held in Karachi to look into possible course of actions to protest against deprivation of Hunza from its rightful demand for an additional seat in LAGB.

Kamil Jan, Candidate from Hunza for LAGB

The participants of the meeting unanimously agreed with the suggestion of Kamil Jan to boycott and forcefully protest by using all democratic means to demand the long standing issue of an additional seat for Hunza at par with other regions of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Hunza has a population of 60,000 individuals and it has just one seat in LAGB while areas with a population of just 10,000 have been given a separate seat, which adversely affects the distribution of development funds for Hunza. In addition in the meeting the Kashmiri leadership’s claims over the Gilgit-Baltistan was highly condemned.

The prominent personalities of Hunza diasporas in Karachi, Mr. Hakeem Ali Khan, Mr. Babar Khan, Mr. Hadi, Mr. Imtiaz who belongs to PPP (and both are candidates for upcoming election from Halqa No. 3, Gilgit District), Mr. Mansoor, Mr. Abbas Ali, Mr. Miraj, Mr. Muhammad (leader of KNM), Mr. Naseer Karim (Intellectual), Mr. Nisar, and many others participated in the meeting. It was further decided that a protest rally would be taken from Quid-e-Azam’s tomb to Karachi Press club where a press conference will be held for the media, however a committee has been formed which will further decided on the exact timing and date.

I really appreciate the growing peaceful political awareness among the people of Hunza. Hunza is remained a symbol of peace, prosperity and development within the region vis-a-vis across the country.

It is the right of people to claim for an additional seat for forthcoming elections. I strong believe that people of Hunza are the in true sense loyal to Pakistan and Govt. should support the right of the society.

I believe its a golden opportunity to raise our voice for the said cause and political awareness of the masses. since the situation is ripe at the moment and media is also giving due coverage to the voice of the People of GB.

Moreover, we also need to highlight and refute the claims of the so called Kashmiri Leaders regarding the status of GB.

what i believe is there must be legal status as we ourself got independence without any aid and support from pakistan and we decided to be part of pakistan.now pakistan is not willing to consider us as pakistanis and want us to be controversial and disputed.this is something keeping us in darkroom.we as poeple of northern areas must demand our right and raise our voice .rather i would say that half of the kashmir was liberated by people of northern areas. another point i want to mention here is that we are controlling three border areas without arms and amunation. our people have been serving for pakistan army and devoting their lives in different disturbed areas of pakistan and pakistan still not realises about the situation.yhis is the critical situatio for pakistan now but if this game continues on then there might be serious consequences pkaistan gona face.pakistan is pushing us aside and is creating roam for a well organized liberation movement and it is not good for pakistan.i love Dardistan and proud to be Hunzai Sirang.

I do agree with all above, but Mr. Tasawar on one side appreciates da people for becoming politically matured and on da other side he asks them to be loyal to pakistan..???? Bhai, which country you’re talking about..??? Da country whose PM is shouting dat we’re not pakistanis and we’ll never be pakistanis, they’ll not give us provincial status at any cost.. So, it’s pakistanis who need to be loyal and humble towards da nation living among da gigantic mountains of Himaliya, Karakorm nd Hindokush..!!!

As far as kashmiris are concerned, bros they are not talking about taking control og G-B, infact they are asking fr a seperate state in G-B as promised by UNO & UNCIP to da people of G-B, we’re linked to kashmiris in UNO nd it’s done by pakistan itself. So, we are not kashmiris but we,ve to admit that we’re sleepiong and they’re shouting…!!!

@ Ahsan and Hyder……….I understand your point of view. To get your right you must be united. currently our region has been divided on the basis of sects.

whenever there is an issue concerning a sect people demonstrate strongly. Then why not for a national cause which is beneficial to whole region?

I do venerate the aforementioned discussion. This is what the beauty of a rational discussion. I admitt that G-B had a liknked with Kashmir before Bristishers landed here. And we need to understand the ground reality behind the lingering situation of both sides of kashmir so far. It would be inapt to argue without looking the interest of every player.

I still admit that we enjoy better position in pakistan than millions of people in India and other parts of Pakistan who have constitutional rights or status.

In case of Kashmir, they developed their human capital and G-B is in a transitional poition. I am sure the maturity will gets in, once entire society gets unite and think on their congruent interest rather than selfish individualist interest either sectarian basis or ethnic or tribal or regional.

I don’t think kashmiri leadership advocating for G-B to get an autonomous position, they preferrably trying to impound G-B. And we have hundreds of justifications to refute their advocacies.

Dear Hyder, I appreciate ur sentiments, but my arguement states the people of Hunza has remained the true loyal to state, if look at the history from independence of G-B to Kargil War. So, my understanding was that Govt should also respect the desires of masses.

I hope it will clarify with my appraoch.
