[Letter] Not ‘Mir of Hunza’

The Last Mir of Hunza, Mir Jamal Khan (September 23, 1912- March 18, 1976)

By: RIFAT A KHAN (MRS) Gilgit.

I would like to draw attention to a term, ‘Mir of Hunza’, which is often misused in the Pakistani media. ‘Mir’ is a Persian word, which means leader of a group or tribe. In the tribal societies of the Indian subcontinent, many people used this word with their names to denote their position as leader of a tribe or group. The rulers of Hunza used the word ‘Mir’ with their names during their 950 years of despotic rule. The ruler of Hunza was known as ‘Mir of Hunza’ until 1974, when the state was abolished and formally became part of the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Mir Muhammad Jamal Khan (1912-76) was the last Mir of Hunza. Thus the title ‘Mir of Hunza’ is no more a legal title in Pakistan because Hunza is no more a separate state. It is a part of the sovereign state of Pakistan. Thus, anybody who uses this title can be charged, under the constitution, with treason and inciting mutiny. The sentences for both of these crimes is capital punishment. Thus, many people find it shocking that some of our media still uses this term. The people of Hunza fought for many years to convince the Pakistani government to abolish the so-called state. I, therefore, hope that Pakistan’s media will be respectful of the sentiments of the majority of people from Gilgit and Baltistan, and especially those from Hunza.  Source

I do appreciate da writer’s knowlwedge about our past, but it’s not valid enough. The people of Da State of Baloristan we don’t come under pakistan’s boundries, constituion, jurisdiction, supreme coart, area, pop, national assembly, senat, any provincial govt, and da frderal govt. We don’t Exist for Pakistanis….!!!
There is No reason left behind dat u’re threatening us from Pakistani Constituition, coz we are out of Pakistani Constitution’s Juridsisdiction. How could u say Hunza, Nagir and da Baloristani State are demolished, u can’t make a Nation your Slave on da basis of Just A Few Lines on Piece of Paper, with a Fake Signatures of Mir Of Hunza and Nagir.

Dear, Quin Victoria is still called da “Quin” despite da fact that they are “Free” then Why can’t we use da term Mir…!!!
I’m not making some fake statments here, it’s UNO.
Acc. to da UN Charter and da UNCIP Resolution on 13th Aug 1948, pakistan was directd to withdraw it’s forces with in 7 weeks, Pakistan agreed to withdraw all its forces and armed personals, tribesmen and citizens from the state Glt-Bln (Baloristan) within a period of 7 weeks. But later on UNCIP accepted the request of Pakistan to extend the period of withdrawal within the period of three months (12 weeks)… But they’re still here…!!!!

UNCIP. “Part II section A.3 of the resolution of 13th Aug.1949 provides, that pending final solution, “The territory of the state evacuated by the Pakistan troops would be administered by the “LOCAL AUTHORITY” under the surveillance of the commission.”.. Where is that Local Authority…!!!!

In the presence of all the above mentioned commitments of UN and it’s Security Council, what legal and moral right is left to Pakistan to impose its civil and military administration in Baloristan(G-B) by violating UN and UNSC resolutions, while UNCIP resolution also provides guarantees of not prejudice to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state of Baloristan in its general provision…!!

Hope u’d go through your own history and try to know da Facts by yourself, coz, all i say is based on some Strong Ground Realities.

Many things that Hyder Abbas Comerade said are facts and realities of our time regarding the situation of Gilgit-Baltistan. What one could do to gain the rights is a big question, becuase in the presence of the the world’s supreme institution the UN which has clear defined the the ‘Self Rule’ for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Issue of Mir is not an important matter of today, as the concept has already died for the people of Hunza and same for the rest of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan in their own context for good of every one.

The important matter is why do people of Gilgit-Baltistan have lived so far under the colonial rule of Pakistan? Do they not have courage to come out and protest and gain their rights as their elders have done so.

We the people of Gilgit-Baltistan needs to come up with a strategy to fight the imposed rulers from Pakistan on our elected representatives. Can we vision how we should do it?????

Great views and ideas of our so called educated boys. Please realiaze, what is the real importance of Pakistan. Pakistan is a republic not an empire of colonies. So Late. Mir Muhammad Jamal Khan (Ghazi Millat, Hon. Maj. General) joined Pakistan for many positive reasons. So who can suggest to remove the title of Mir, it is like Khan, Nawab, Raja and Malik etc…If Hunza was not part of Pakistan, then what is your option? Subsequently, to day Indian armies would have been stationed at Khunjerab, Shimshal, Misgar etc…Then you would have enjoyed a real freedom, ok. This is what the inner plan of to day. So take care.
